Saxon IV was
built at Belfast in 1899, being the largest vessel to date of
the Union Steamship Company, shortly before its amalgamation with
Castle Line.
Besides carrying
mail to South Africa, the Saxon accommodated a large number of
passengers, the first class enjoying luxury staterooms. (This
image is a postcard from the Illustrations Collection at Falmouth
Library. Regrettably, it is currently missing from the collection)
